Dubai’s Blue Line to house largest underground metro station
New 44,000 sqm interchange station will serve 350,000 passengers daily
DUBAI is set to break new ground – literally – with the addition of the city's largest underground metro station as part of the ambitious Dubai Metro Blue Line project.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, laid the foundation stone of the 30-kilometre line, which will feature 14 stations and connect nine major districts, with a projected population exceeding one million by 2040.
Among its standout features is a massive underground interchange station near Mirdif City Centre, covering 44,000 square metres and capable of accommodating up to 350,000 passengers per day.
What’s unique?
The colossal interchange station – strategically located at International City 1 – will integrate seamlessly with Dubai’s expanding transit infrastructure. Designed with full green building compliance and Platinum Category certification, the station will include public bus bays, taxi ranks, scooter racks, and inclusive facilities.
This milestone station adds to a network that will span 131 km with 78 stations and 168 trains, linking directly with Centrepoint and Creek stations on the Red and Green lines.
How does it connect?
The Blue Line is designed to connect key zones including Mirdif, Academic City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Festival City and Ras Al Khor. With a 1.3-km viaduct crossing over Dubai Creek, it becomes the first Dubai Metro line to achieve this engineering feat. Travel time from these zones to Dubai International Airport will be just 20 minutes.

Who benefits most?
By 2029, 50,000 students based in Academic City alone are expected to benefit. Daily ridership is projected to hit 200,000 by 2030 and surge to 320,000 by 2040. This new line is a pivotal part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and supports the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 by unlocking Dh56.5 billion in economic benefits.
